Trips to Walmart, Target & Harris Teeter Today

So, I ran all over today running errands & wanted to share some of the sales with you! I will say that this was over budget. I had to get some school supplies, and other things I got at Target & Walmart were because they were good prices & I won't be going back there anytime soon. I also will probably not be shopping too much the next few weeks, because I am so stocked up! Woo Hoo

Here are some details:

Tuesday Tweeking... Sorting Laundry

Here is an interesting 'tweek' that is sure to get some feedback, which I fully embrace!

Laundry... We all have to do it and for most of us, we all hate it! At least, I know I do! For me, the worst part is sorting & then putting away! In our home, if you don't bring it down to the laundry room & sort it yourself, it may never get washed. I like to be able to just pull clothes out of the laundry sorter & dump it in the washer.

I am constantly looking for ways to simplify the laundry process, but it seems mostly impossible... Until now! I was reading this blog this morning & came across a very interesting technique!

What is it??? DON'T sort!!! *gasp* I know, right?!?! You want me to put the whites with the jeans and the socks and everything else??? Well, that was her suggestion!

My New Recipe of the Week - Crescent Chicken

I was so excited about trying this recipe... Simple ingredients I already had, a one pot dish and who doesn't looove Crescent Rolls??? Yum!
Well, this dish sure did not disappoint! There was not one bite of leftovers! This will be another one we add to our meal plan rotation! This is also an easy meal to adapt the portions to feed a small group or a huge crew!
Go here to see a list of all my new recipes I've tried! Let me know if you try anything or if you have any suggestions!

My Meal Plan 8/29 - 9/04

I'm hoping this week will be uneventful! Is that too much to ask??? Between earthquakes & hurricanes, I can't keep my nerves calm enough to cook a meal! Lol I am looking forward to my New Recipe that I'm trying this week! It looks delicious! This is our last week of summer, so I'm trying my best to get us back on track... We'll see how that works out!

We Survived Hurricane Irene

This morning, I am so thankful my family is alive & well. We were left with very little damage & clean-up outside... There is definitely way more clean-up to be done inside, rather than outside!
We spent the entire day downstairs together! And then when the storm intensified, we all moved to the front room, because it is furthest from trees & has less windows! On the downside, the room is so small, the 6 of us can all barely fit in there without touching eachother! Talk about a nightmare! We had 11 hours of quality family fun time yesterday! We did EVERYTHING possible to keep the kids from going crazy...

Hurricane Irene is HERE

Well, we have prepared as much as we can.... The effects of Hurricane Irene is here. Although, Hampton Roads area will technically not be 'hit' until about 2pm. We are already experiencing plenty of wind & rain. We were in a tornado warning all night, until 9:30am, which made it almost impossible to sleep.

We did lose power for a moment late last night & I may have overreacted... I felt that gasping & yelling, "Oh my gosh, GREG!" was appropriate. But by my husband laughing in the dark, I'm thinking otherwise. I am blaming it on the fact that is was barely even raining so it was completely unexpected! It came back on in less than a minute thankfully.

We have a few flickers of power this morning, so we're pretty much just counting down the time until we are powerless. My biggest worry is losing my food in the freezer! I have moved it inside & packed it as full as possible... I emptied my regular freezer. Added a jug of water & a cooler of ice. We shall see. But in the end... It is just food.

Besides the power, my biggest worries are the trampoline & trees outback. We have tied the trampoline down as best as possible. (The yellow rope shows my husbands excellent tying down job.) Another problem is going to be our dogs. They will not go outside in this weather. Our older dog, Coco, has a bladder of steel. So, I think she'll be fine. But our puppy Pearl is a completely different story. She pees if she gets too excited... She's already had 2 accidents! This should be fun! :)

Besides that, the dishes are done, the laundry is done, everything is inside, the tree branches close to the house are cut down, freezer full, fridge & freezer set to the coldest setting, plenty of food & water & batteries, ac set high... Now, I guess all that is left to do is pray!

How are you preparing & weathering the storm???

Inexpensive Hurricane Preparation

So apparently, Hampton Roads, VA is going to be hit right on by hurricane Irene! Va has now been declared a "State of Emergency"! Which is hard to believe when you look outside right now, because it's gorgeous!

I am less than thrilled about this, but what can ya do??? Hopefully, you have all you need & will not need to go to the store... I hear they are craaazy! This is one of the pros to having a stockpile... Thankfully, I already have these items that I bought on sale, instead of having to go over budget, buying items at full price.

Here are a few ways to prepare:

Farm Fresh Fuel Express Gas Rewards

Farm Fresh has a great program to help you save money on gas! For every $10 of qualified items purchased, you will receive $0.01 off a gallon of gas!

This may not sound like a big savings, but you can redeem up to 5 rewards at one time & that can add up quickly! I normally save them up & then use them all together to fill up my tank. The regular gas price is normally average, if not low & with the added gas savings, you can save significantly!

This is what I have from the last 2 weeks of shopping. I earned $0.05 from this trip. I earned $0.02 & $0.08 from this trip. The current price as of 8/25/11 is $3.45/gallon - gas savings = $3.30/gallon

Here's some extra tips/info:
